Riserless Mud Recovery RMR® - equipment ready for Deepsea Nordkapp

Written by Reidun Christensen | Sep 07, 2021

SAFETY and quality are at the heart of Enhanced Drilling’s activities. Last week, one of our RMR® systems was inspected, qualified and mobilised - ready for Deepsea Nordkapp.

The RMR® Riserless Mud Recovery system allows for drilling of the riserless section with full volume control, returning the drilling fluid back to the rig as oppose to disposing the fluid at seabed.

Top-hole safety

RMR® is a dual gradient top-hole drilling technology and the system has been successfully used on more 500 wells since it was first deployed operationally in 2003.

In one of the more recent operations completed earlier this year, Enhanced Drilling’s RMR® system was successfully used on the Shell’s Malikai TLP to drill five top holes in batch in just under 500 meters of water.

Safety management inspection

Safety and quality are at the heart of Enhanced Drilling’s activities and before we mobilise any equipment, we undertake rigorous safety and management inspections. Last week, we qualified one of our RMR® Riserless Mud Recovery “no pump & dump” systems - currently on its way to the Deepsea Nordkapp rig.

Close monitoring and control

By deploying the RMR® system, it allows for the close monitoring of wells to detect any losses and gains as well as determine when, and if, the cement is returned to mud line. This reduces the amount of excess cement and improves the ability to document a good cement job.
