RMR® Riserless Mud Recovery services returns to the UK North Sea

ENHANCED DRILLING has recently secured several contracts for their Riserless Mud Recovery (RMR®) solutions in the UK North Sea, for three different major operators.

Increased activity in the UK Oil and Gas sector

The UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) has a great deal of undiscovered resources with lots of potential that can prolong the life, and maximize efficiency, from mature production assets. Leading UK officials recently stated that to achieve net-zero, the UK needs to have a thriving Oil and Gas sector as it transitions over to renewables (source: AGCC).

Recently, Enhanced Drilling has managed to strengthen their position on the UKCS, following three major contract wins for their cost efficient and environmentally-friendly RMR® and Cuttings Transportation (CTS) services. These will be Enhanced Drilling’s first projects in the UK since 2018, and the company has already successfully completed a rapid mobilization for two out of the three projects.

According to Enhanced Drilling’s COO, Lars J. Halvorsen, the company is expecting an increased return of activity on the UKCS over the next couple of years, as the Best Available Technology (BAT) principle is now more widely used in conjunction with environmental considerations.

“We are extremely pleased to be awarded these contracts on the UKCS. We are also excited to see that the UK energy sector is adopting our zero-emissions services and proven technologies that can contribute towards not only meeting the UK’s demand for oil and gas today, but also aid the transition towards net-zero, ” Halvorsen said.

RMR® technology – risk reducing, with less GHG emissions during drilling

With RMR®, it is possible to reuse and recycle the mud during RMR® operations in comparison with conventional drilling where cuttings and drilling fluids are discharged to sea and seabed. As such, materials used in the production of drilling fluid will be reduced. The contribution varies depending on the drilling fluids used, however, the technology gives operators the possibility to reduce top-hole casing string, resulting in less material used per well and less Greenhouse Gas emissions.

Technologies and services

Enhanced Drilling aims to help oil companies around the world solve challenges on all types of subsea wells, from top-hole drilling, intermediate section drilling, and reservoir drilling through the whole well construction process including completion.

Enhanced Drilling provides technologies and services that have been deployed on more than 1000+ wells worldwide including EC-Drill® Managed Pressure Drilling system, Cuttings Transport System (CTS) (which is used to take cuttings away from the wellhead area), MPC Managed Pressure Cementing (MPC®), a complementary technology to RMR®, and the newly developed EC-Monitor system (EC-M).
